February Youth Pottery: Enchanted Hat

Calling all young witches, wizards, and magical makers! Step into a
world of enchanted clay in this 2-hour youth pottery workshop, where
students will design and create their very own Enchanted Hat. Using
slabs of clay, carving tools, and sculptural details, each artist will
shape a magical hat that looks like it belongs in a spell-filled
classroom or atop a wizard’s shelf.

Will your hat be tall and
mysterious? Bent from years of spell-casting? Covered in textures,
symbols, or secret details? The magic is in the making! A ceramic artist
will guide students step by step, helping ideas take shape while
encouraging creativity and imagination.

No clay experience is
required. All tools and materials are provided—just bring your
imagination and a willingness to get a little muddy.

After the
workshop, each enchanted hat will be carefully dried, fired, glazed by
the instructor, and fired again to a finished state. Finished pieces
will be ready for pickup beginning Saturday, March 7.

Instructor: Missy Hitch
What
began as a single ceramics class quickly became a creative obsession
for Missy Hitch. She soon found herself spending countless hours in the
studio, exploring, learning, and refining her craft. After a decade of
working with clay, she became a ceramics instructor at Prairie Arts
Center, where she now teaches hand-building and beginning wheel classes.

Missy
specializes in creating functional everyday pieces like mugs, baking
dishes, and teapots, but she also enjoys crafting decorative work. She
has led a wide range of workshops on projects such as yarn bowls,
decorative plates, Valentine gnomes, and whimsical chickens. Over the
years, she has gathered a wealth of techniques and tricks, which she
loves sharing with her students to make pottery both fun and accessible.
Whether at the wheel or in the classroom, Missy finds joy in helping
others discover the magic of clay.
