Description

Prairie
Arts Center is excited to once again partner with our neighbors to the
north, the OSU Museum of Art, for this year's Spring Break Camp. This
4-day camp will begin on Tuesday, March 18th with a visit to the museum
for an interactive tour of Ralph Steadman: And Another Thing
where campers will get to see Steadman's expressive, bold, and whimsical
work up close. Our week of art making will take inspiration from
Steadman's ink blot technique and his willingness to wait for characters
and images to emerge from his random splats and splodges. Students
should bring a lunch and snack, and come dressed for the weather and
making messes!

*Splat and Splodge campers' art work will be
bound in a large book that will be on display in the Malinda Berry
Fischer Gallery at the OSUMOA from April 1st-19th. Campers and parents
are invited to attend the closing reception for the exhibition on April
18th from 5-7. Art work will be available for pickup at the Prairie Arts
Center on or after April 21st during open hours.

Ralph
Steadman: And Another Thing is organized by the Ralph Steadman Art
Collection and is sponsored by United Therapeutics and Flying Dog.
Funding for the 2024/25 OSU Museum of Art season is provided by Riccarda
de Eccher & Bill Goldston, and the OSU Museum of Art Advocates.

Instructor’s name

Art
educator Jen Johnson holds an undergraduate degree in art history and
English literature from the University of Kansas, as well as an MAT
(Masters in the Art of Teaching) from the English Department at the
University of Montana. In her own practice, Jen is equally invested in
understanding the larger world through her interactions with the art
objects of others and the making of her own art objects. Jen considers
her greatest strengths as an educator to be the facilitation of
reflective and critical conversations about art and art making, as well
as the creation of safe environments for authentic explorations into the
practices of self-expression and making. Her preferred mediums are
mixed media, printmaking, and photography, but she enjoys the act of
creation no matter the medium and considers it one of her greatest joys
to make art alongside others.
