Join us for fun, hands-on Saturday Youth Clay Classes, designed for
kids ages 8-14! Each month, students will explore different
hand-building techniques to create a unique clay project. No prior
experience with clay is needed. After the workshop, projects will be
bisque-fired and ready for painting, glazing, or pick-up as early as the
following week.
March Saturday Youth Clay Class: Hand Dish Creations
In this fun, hands-on workshop, kids (ages 8-14) will create
their own unique ceramic hand dish! Whether they design it as a spoon
rest, trinket dish, or soap dish, their handmade piece will be both
functional and one-of-a-kind. After shaping and adding details, their
creations will be bisque-fired and glazed with a color of their
choosing, ready for pick up in two weeks. No experience needed—just
bring your creativity!
Instructor:
Missy Hitch After nearly 20 years of
working various administrative positions at OSU, Missy Hitch took a
ceramics class and instantly fell in love with it. When she's not
following her teenage daughter around to bowling tournaments, she spends
her time in the studio where she gets the opportunity to learn,
explore, and create works of art. After 5 years of working with clay,
Missy became a ceramics instructor at Prairie Arts Center where she
teaches hand building and beginning wheel classes. Her focus as a maker
is on building every day functional pieces like mugs, baking dishes,
and teapots but she also makes decorative pieces and has led various
workshops on ceramic projects, such as holiday gnomes and nativity
scenes. Over the years, Missy has learned some tips and tricks, which
she happily shares with her students to make pottery fun and exciting.
